Great Outdoor Workouts in Santa Monica

Posted March 3, 2021

If your ideal fitness routine involves gym visits, group fitness classes, or rejuvenating wellness experiences, Santa Monica businesses have good news for you. They’re making it possible for you to stretch, sweat, and get your heart pumping—all in the great outdoors.

Class sizes are limited to meet social-distancing guidelines, so we recommend planning ahead. Check with each business to find scheduling information, reserve your space, and familiarize yourself with their specific safety protocols.

Outdoor Cardio

Challenge your favorite workout buddy to join you for a high-energy fitness class. A few options: Enjoy an ocean breeze during class on SoulCycle’s rooftop deck at Santa Monica Place; go for a low-impact, full-body rowing workout at Row House, where they’ve moved their machines outdoors; or take a Santa Monica Beach Bicycle Rentals, and explore a section of the South Bay Bike Trail. Take some time to take care of YOU during Self-Care Saturdays. Join Downtown Santa Monica & Fit Girl Club LA for a morning of self-care featuring FREE workouts and local vendors on Third Street Promenade.

Outdoor Cross-Training

Rediscover your inner athlete with an intense cross-training workout. Burn Fitness is holding classes on their roof deck; Circuit Works teaches H.I.I.T. classes on the Santa Monica Pier; Body Fit has taken their classes (and their free weights) outdoors; and Inspired Method leads boot camp classes in Palisades Park.

Outdoor Boxing

Ready to throw some punches… at a boxing bag? Rumble is offering outdoor classes on the third floor of Santa Monica Place, with a daily schedule of 45-minute boxing and strength workouts. Box ‘N Burn on Lincoln has taken their classes to the parking lot, where instructors teach a blend of boxing technique, strength, and conditioning.

Outdoor Pilates

Sculpt, stretch, and strengthen your muscles at an open-air Pilates class. Tribe Pilates’ 45-minute outdoor reformer class promises a full-body workout; Pilatesmith is using their covered garage two blocks from the beach as an outdoor studio for reformer classes; and Coreology holds outdoor XFormer classes for core-focused fitness.

Outdoor Sound Baths

No matter what kind of workout you choose for your body, your mind deserves some self-care, too. Take a relaxing, meditative journey with a 60-minute outdoor sound bath. AZ I AM holds a weekly sound bath on the Santa Monica Pier, and Beach Yoga SoCal’s weekly Reiki Sound Bath takes place down on the sand.
