AMNESIA, 2015, Film Movement, 96 min. This 1990s-set tale of German expats brings director Barbet Schroeder back to Ibiza, the scene of his debut feature, though the soundtrack here is techno rather than Pink Floyd. Twenty-something composer Jo (Max Riemelt) has come over from Berlin hoping to get a job as a DJ in the new nightclub on the island, Amnesia. Martha (Marthe Keller) has been living alone in her house facing the sea for 40 years. One night Jo knocks on her door; they become friends even as the mysteries around her accumulate: that cello in the corner she refuses to play, the German language she refuses to speak. Costarring Bruno Ganz. “A simple yet poignant drama with sharp historical undertones.” – Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Reporter. In French, German, Spanish and Russian with English subtitles. Discussion following with director Barbet Schroeder. Special Ticket Prices: $15 General, $13 Students/Seniors, $11 Cinematheque Members. No vouchers.
