Tongva After Dark: Lionel Popkin’s Inflatable Park

Tongva Park closes out its third season of events with Tongva After Dark: Inflatable Park, a new work by choreographer Lionel Popkin, on Tuesday, October 18th at 7:30pm.
A spectacular, site-specific dance work by noted Los Angeles choreographer, Lionel Popkin, will bring Tongva Park’s third season of cultural programming to a close. Inflatable Park, commissioned especially for Tongva by the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division, takes the audience through three areas of the park, ending with an engaging, high-energy finale set on and around inflatable living room furniture.
Nine dancers will lean into, lie on top of and hang off of each other and bounce off the air-filled furniture. “The dance looks, sometimes askance, at the systems of support that surround us, including people, objects and social structures,” said Popkin about his upcoming piece. Inflatable Park is being brought back to Tongva for a return engagement after a highly-regarded debut in April of this year.
