SEPTEMBER 2 – OCTOBER 2, 2023
OPENING RECEPTION: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 5-8PM
bG Gallery in Bergamot Station is excited to announce a solo exhibition of Thomas Whittaker Kidd. The exhibition presents a new body of work with a unique blend of abstraction and figuration, evident through loose, kinesthetic use of paint creating ambiguous yet mimetic scenes. The exhibition will run from September 2 to October 2, 2023, with a special reception taking place on Saturday, September 9th from 6-9pm during Bergamot Station’s Fall Open event.
The exhibition has a unique component, an extension to experiences in the artist’s studio. Select guests of the in gallery exhibition are invited to see an extension of the show in the artists off gallery studio location.
Whittaker’s new work brings forth an unrestricted approach that results in a temperate ambience compared to the tone of his older works. This fresh direction sees the artist shifting away from the reaction-based nature of his earlier work, reflecting a more proactive and provocative mentality.
His latest collection is a breath-taking ensemble of painterly compositions glowing with rich, vibrant colors. His new pieces embody an unrestrained exploration of paint and recognizable form, embracing the aesthetic and textural qualities of the medium, resulting in an exciting new visual dialogue.
Om Bleicher, the director and curator of bG Gallery, declares “His use of color and form creates a meditative, immersive experience for viewers, and the elements of his personal and political explorations offer a deeply layered richness to his work.”
This shift in Whittaker’s artistic expression is not only a testament to his evolution as an artist but also an embodiment of his maturity and growth. His willingness to confront personal and political themes from a more pensive and considerate outlook offers an intriguing new perspective for his audience to engage with.
