Opening Reception for “Space, Scape and Scope” with the Artists
This event has expired. Please visit the Events Calendar for current listings.
Join the artists of our new photography exhibitscape scope opening, Space, Scape, and Scope, and enjoy light refreshments. Featuring works by Sheila Pinkel, Anne Troutman and Bruria Finkel, the exhibit offers images of micro and macro landscapes, depicting both natural processes and and mechanical devices.
Close up lens scans by Sheila Pinkel are her latest investigations into light phenomena as revealed via optical glass. For five years, Pinkel has collected and scanned hundreds of lenses – optics from the early days of photography to the present. Anne Troutman’s photo-based landscape constructions are meditations on the process of change in nature. She employs a technique of un-stitching, re-assembling and physically layering fragments of a single image to create an immediate and immersive experience of seeing. Bruria Finkel’s series photographs were taken on the 2012 winter solstice at Santa Monica Beach and on the 2014 summer solstice at Nancy Holt’s Sun Tunnels in Utah. Taken at 4-second intervals, the images mark both the passage of time and a sense of perpetuity.
