Join the Santa Monica Conservancy in a special commemoration of architect Julia Morgan, California’s first woman architect. Morgan left a legacy of more than 700 projects in her nearly five decades of practice. Morgan designed the Guest House and pool, which comprise the historic core of the Beach House.
The celebration kicks off at 11am as Morgan scholar Karen McNeill, Ph.D., presents Julia Morgan and Phoebe Hearst: Building Legacies Together. Dr. McNeill is currently writing a biography of Julia Morgan, and has lectured extensively on Morgan’s work in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her studies focus on women and gender in the architectural profession, and the leadership of women in the Progressive Era.
Santa Monica Conservancy docent tours will highlight Morgan’s work in California. The Guest House, and view of the pool will be open from noon to 2pm.
