In Howard Hawks’ TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT, Humphrey Bogart is a cynical fisherman in a French colonial port who tries to keep his nose out of WWII until Lauren Bacall wins his heart and awakens his idealism. In DARK PASSAGE, Bogie plays a man wrongly accused of murdering his wife who breaks out of jail to find the killer; Bacall is the woman who helps him hide out and solve the mystery.
