Deep Listening Sound Walk with Studio Resident Alex Wand
This event has expired. Please visit the Events Calendar for current listings.
Saturday 5/4, 11am-12:30pm
Cost: Free!
In the tradition of Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening sessions, we’ll take a walk and listen to the sounds of our environment. Perhaps we’ll walk in the park, along the street, or on the beach. After we’ll regroup and journal about our experiences. Prepare for light travel and sun/wind protection. This repeating event is open to all.
Alex Wand is a Grammy Award-winning musician and composer based in Los Angeles. He performs as a solo artist and with the groups Desert Magic and The Partch Ensemble. He often collaborates with filmmakers, dancers, and coders, to create music scores that involve his interests in just intonation, sonification, folk music, and sound art. Originally from Detroit, he studied at the University of Michigan and received an MFA in music composition from CalArts. For his Camera Obscura residency project, he is exploring the sonification of kinetic information from ocean waves as a part of his broader study of the range of sounds that can be drawn from the environment.
