Canstruction Santa Monica

Overnight on Friday, November 1, local architecture and engineering firms will be building structures not of wood, brick and plaster, but of CANS! These firms will be taking a break from their traditional practice to spend their time competing in the inaugural Canstruction Santa Monica! Once complete, the public is invited over the following two weeks to check out their inventive creations made only of non-perishable food items.
Canstruction is a long-running international design competition, held locally, between architects, engineers and design teams, that build structures out of canned goods. It is a festive affair that challenges these teams to “out creative” each other, involves the community in judging and participation, and benefits the local food banks. Canstruction Santa Monica has partnered with both Meals on Wheels West and the Westside Food Bank – they will receive 100% of the non-perishable food used in the construction of Canstruction. Canstruction Santa Monica will generate thousands of pounds of food for our community this year!
Structures will then be on display and open to the public at Watergarden Santa Monica in the building lobby adjacent to 26th St., until November 17th.
