18th Street Arts Center for Artful Watching, a special series of outdoor film screenings exploring the rich history and cultural treasures of Santa Monica. Cozy up beneath the stars for a special screening of “Breaking Through the Clouds,” as they explore Santa Monica’s deep connections to aviation and the history of the Santa Monica Airport – the location of 18SAC Airport Campus, housing over 30 local artists and galleries.
“Breaking Through the Clouds” is an award winning documentary that shares the inspiring true story of twenty women who raced across America by plane in the summer of 1929 – from Santa Monica, CA to Cleveland, Ohio. “Facing cultural stereotypes, mechanical failures, threats of sabotage, navigational challenges, and endless chicken dinners, the pilot’s persevered to become pioneering legends in aviation.”
This outdoor screening will be accompanied by plentiful heaters, free hot cocoa, a handmade arts & crafts market featuring handcrafted felt fairies and fairy houses by The Fairy Place; upcycled home goods by Laura Hernandez; and handcrafted Oaxacan goods by Ines Garcia! Bundle up, bring your snacks and get ready to learn more about the history of Santa Monica!
