It’s the internationally acclaimed Rudie-DeCarlo musical comedy, and it’s getting a make-over as Actors’ Repertory Theatre in conjunction with All the Queen’s Men presents the PRIDE 2019 late-night production of CINDERELLA TOPSY TURVY – A Tender Gender Bender Romantic Musical Fairy Story. A delightful re-imagining of the classic Cinderella tale brings you upside-down casting – half original practices, half Gilbert and Sullivan, half just plain fun. Meet a handsome Prince, silly stepsisters, a befuddled king, and an out-of-the-box steampunk Fairygodmother. Added delights are the outrageously playful period costumes and the heart-warming romance that blooms with the assistance of a glass slipper, a feather duster, and a truly magical wand. A gentle prod at stereotypical gender roles, this light-hearted send-up is a hilarious twist on the classic tale. Plays May 31 to June 22, 2019, Friday and Saturday nights at 10pm.
A “jewel of a theatre” (Jewish Journal), Santa Monica Playhouse “knows what its audience expects from an evening of theatre” (LA TIMES). Written by Chris DeCarlo and Evelyn Rudie (“Your work is brilliant!” English Shakespeare Company), CINDERELLA TOPSY TURVY marks the fifth anniversary of the Playhouse’s Fairy Stories for Pride Series, and features Quint Erwin, Tiffany Haile, Sarai Jimenez, Luke Martin McMahan, Cydne Moore, Joseph Perez, Graham Silbert. Who plays what role? Guess (and you’ll probably be wrong.) Helmed by Graham Silbert from original direction by Chris DeCarlo, & directed by Chris DeCarlo & Evelyn Rudie. Lighting, Set and Video Projections by James Cooper, Costume Design by Ashley Hayes and Graham Silbert, Production Coordinator Joseph Perez, Production Stage Manager George J. Vennes III.
