2026 Preservation Awards

Join the Santa Monica Conservancy on Sunday, November 8, for the 2026 Preservation Awards, celebrating exceptional contributions to the city’s architectural and cultural heritage. This year’s program brings together architecture, landscape restoration, and volunteer service to explore how caring for the places we share can enrich an entire community.

Special Tribute Award: Frederick Fisher and Partners

For five decades, Frederick Fisher and Partners has brought renewed life to historic buildings and places through design responsive to history, the environment, and the people it serves. This year’s Special Tribute Award honors that commitment and the firm’s contributions to Santa Monica’s civic and cultural life.

With guest host Frances Anderton, the program will explore the firm’s work at Bergamot Station Arts Center, the Annenberg Community Beach House, and City Hall East, among other projects.

We’ll also look at affordable housing for Community Corporation of Santa Monica, the conversion of a former telephone company building for the Broad Art Foundation, and the comfort stations at Tongva Park. Together, these projects reveal a thoughtful approach to the relationship between architecture and public life, grounded in an understanding of what makes each place distinctive.

This year’s program also honors two contributions to the landscapes that connect Santa Monica’s natural history with its community life.
The Bay Foundation will be recognized for restoring coastal dunes along Santa Monica’s beach. Its work draws on the shoreline’s ecological history to reestablish habitat and support a more resilient coast.

Hilda Weiss will receive the Volunteer Service Award for creating and staffing a garden tour featuring native California plants at the Conservancy’s Ocean Park headquarters. Her contribution reflects the essential role of volunteers in making preservation welcoming, accessible, and rooted in personal connection.
