Los Angeles Youth Orchestra Spring Concert

Los Angeles Youth Orchestra (LAYO), made up of accomplished student musicians ages 8-18, honors the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence in April with an entire performance by American composers, under the batons of Russell Steinberg, Artistic Director, and Jorge Padron, Assistant Director.

The LAYO concerts will be on the early side of a nationwide July celebration, and take place at Barnum Hall in Santa Monica on Sunday, April 19, and Pasadena’s Ambassador Auditorium on Monday, April 20.

The program features:

• Third Symphony by Roy Harris, hailed as the first “great American Symphony” when it premiered in 1939.

• World Premiere of Self-Evident by Russell Steinberg, for orchestra and spoken chorus on excerpts from The Declaration of Independence.

Plus works by:

• Aaron Copland, John Phililip Sousa, Morton Gould, Charles Ives and William Grant Stills.
