In honor of Flag Day, Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will light its iconic Pacific Wheel with a 90-foot-tall animated American flag and a series of dazzling patriotic icons. The custom-designed displays on the solar-powered Ferris wheel will feature red, white and blue colors, patterns and transitions visible along the Santa Monica coastline as the Pier joins communities nationwide in celebrating the adoption of the American flag.<\/p>\n
Flag Day, observed annually on June 14, marks the adoption of the American Flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777.<\/p>\n
The Pacific Wheel is the world\u2019s only solar-powered Ferris wheel featuring 174,000 LED lights that are mounted on the Ferris wheel\u2019s 40 spokes and two hubs. The Ferris wheel\u2019s lighting system features 16.7 million color value combinations to display dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment. The eco-friendly, enhanced LED lighting provides 81 percent greater energy savings than most Ferris wheel\u2019s traditional incandescent bulbs.<\/p>\n
The Ferris wheel soars nine stories high and lifts riders more than 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean to offer extraordinary views of the Southern California coastline from its location on the internationally popular Santa Monica Pier.<\/p>\n
