Santa Monica, Calif. (September 24, 2014) – Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau (SMCVB) stood out from among its peers last week during an awards ceremony sponsored by the Western Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (WACVB). During the ceremony, SMCVB was awarded a prestigious 2014 Best Idea Award for the Santa Monica Shuttle program.

WACVB’s annual Best Idea Program showcases innovative projects and creative marketing strategies submitted by WACVB members each year. The project submitted, the Santa Monica Shuttle, is a partnership between Santa Monica Free Ride, SMCVB and local hotels to provide a free on-demand service that transports visitors and residents to Downtown Santa Monica, Santa Monica Pier, Main Street, and Montana Avenue. The Santa Monica Shuttle consists of electric vehicles wrapped in Santa Monica destination branding that are regularly available at local hotels. The service runs seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. until at least 8 p.m., later on weekends and for special events.

“The Santa Monica Shuttle has been extremely well-received in our community, providing over 30,000 free, electric, open-air rides since its launch in May 2014,” said Misti Kerns, president/CEO of SMCVB. “We’re very excited to have received such positive feedback from residents and visitors who have enjoyed the service, and to have received this prestigious industry award. We look forward to expanding the program and building upon its success.”

This year’s Best Idea Program awards were presented during the 2014 WACVB Annual Conference, held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Following receipt of the entry forms, a Board-appointed task force reviewed the submissions and selected several ideas for presentation at the conference. Representatives from several bureaus presented their best ideas during the conference.
