SANTA MONICA’S VOLLEY-WEEN FUNDRAISER RETURNS FOR THIRD YEAR

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (October 8, 2024) – Santa MoniCARES, Tourism Supporting Our Community returns on October 30 with the third annual Volley-Ween, rallying support for local Santa Monica nonprofits.

This year’s event will again include a beach volleyball tournament and costume contest welcoming local businesses and residents to participate on the court or cheer from the sidelines. The festivities will take place from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Perry’s Cafe and Beach Rentals.

“We look forward to Volley-Ween each year to bring the community together and contribute to our local nonprofits who need support,” said Misti Kerns, President/CEO of Santa Monica Travel & Tourism. “Whether you are a seasoned player or a supportive spectator, we invite Santa Monica locals and businesses to join in some friendly competition for a great cause.”

Teams of two, four and six at all skill levels are invited to compete in a beach volleyball tournament on the very Santa Monica sands where the sport was popularized. Teams anticipated to participate include the Santa Monica Police Department as well as local businesses including Elevate Public Affairs, last year’s tournament winner.

“The Santa MoniCARES Volley-Ween Tournament provides a unique opportunity for our Elevate team to help create impact while playing beach volleyball with the Santa Monica community,” said Elizabeth Hansell, Principal of Elevate Public Affairs.  “We were thrilled to meet our neighbors and advocates and learn more about the charities Santa MoniCARES supports.”

Santa Monica Police Department’s Chief of Police, Ramon Batista, said, “We are thrilled to join the 3rd Annual Volley-Ween Volleyball Tournament and support Santa MoniCARES once again. Our team took home the win in 2022, and we’re excited to bring that same energy back this year. It’s a fun way to connect with our community while contributing to a great cause.”

Fellow tournament player Charlie Lopez-Quintana, Vice President & Managing Director at Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar also shared, “Volley-Ween is a wonderful way to connect with our fellow hotel friends in Santa Monica. So much fun boosting team work and togetherness with your colleagues.”

In addition to the tournament and costume contest prizes, attendees can look forward to entertainment, food and drinks, games and more at this beloved community event. Registration is required to participate in the tournament with an entry fee of $35 per person.
