Opening Reception for ‘Unspooled’

Celebrate the opening of Unspooled with the artists Lynne B. Clark, Maria E. Piñeres, and Jenny Hart and exhibit curator Stacey Ravel Abarbanel, with music by Wages. Light refreshments provided.
Yarn, embroidery thread, fabric, and needlepoint canvases may still conjure images of grandmothers crafting on the couch. Yet some contemporary artists have reimagined the characteristics of knitting and needlework in innovative ways that blur the boundaries between art and craft, investigate the notion of women’s work, and challenge our ideas of how these fibers are “supposed” to be used. Unspooled presents works by three Los Angeles artists who unwind our preconceptions of domestic materials.
