Pier
At the foot of Colorado Avenue, through the world-famous arch and sign, lies the historic Santa Monica Pier, which dates to 1909.

Clean and safe, (there's a Santa Monica Police substation) the Pier is a unique attraction that evokes the historic heyday of the beachfront carnival.
The Pier boasts a spectacular National Historic Landmark–the 1922 Looff Hippodrome Carousel, a thrilling throwback to a bygone era, rich with an air of romantic nostalgia (this is where Paul Newman's character worked in the movie The Sting).
