Bike Path
For outdoor types looking for more physical activity than shopping and dining, look no farther than the South Bay Bicycle Trail.
The
longest beach path of its kind in the world, the trail
stretches 22 miles from Malibu to the north to Torrance in the south. This magnificent
bike trail is one of the most popular free, public
athletic amenities in all of California. The trail,
which is open to most non-motorized wheeled conveyance,
offers riders an extensive sampling of Southern California
beaches and beach culture.
Along
the path, just south of Santa Monica, cyclists will
encounter the famous and entertaining phenomenon of
Venice Beach, with its unique mix of vendors, artists,
street performers, workout facilities and beachgoers.
South of Venice Beach, the trail loops inland around
the yacht basin of Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey,
then back to the ocean to pass along Dockweiler
State Beach and behind Los Angeles International Airport.
It
continues past El Porto Beach, Manhattan State Beach
(there are two side-by-side paths here, one for walking
and jogging and the other for biking and skating),
Hermosa Beach and ends just south of Redondo State
Beach.
